If you think about it, as an example, you install 165 deg sprinklers in
everything from an office to a cooler and anything in between. If there was
concern over the cooler ambient temperature of the space affecting the
sprinkler response I'm sure NFPA and FM along with UL would have some
commentary on it. So to install it near the diffuser as long as it meets the
distance requirements of NFPA 13, should cause no additional concern.

Thank you for such a good question  and answer. Are there any comments  or
studies about the influence of cold air [air conditioning ] blowing air at the
sprinkler? Would the cold air delay the response of the sprinkler?

Typical ceiling diffuser is blowing air downward, (actually in an mbrella type
pattern, but who's to argue) A sidewall or side of duct ounted type would be
considered horizontal.
By the definition and the directions in the table it looks like you need o be
at least 1'-0" from the edge of the diffuser so if you're 1'-1"
ou should be good to go with an Ordinary Temp. You're mighty close hough.

ubject: Sprinklers located next to diffusers Looking at Table 8.3.2.5a in
13-2002 there is a downward and horizontal iffuser. For the standard 2x2
diffuser in a suspended ceiling which is he correct to use. It is blowing air
downward and horizontal? Can I nstall an ordinary temp pendant sprinkler 1'-1"
away from one of these iffusers?
Thanks
