Its time that professionals be recognized for their excellence ! Yesterday a sprinklered property in our jurisdiction experienced an unintentional discharge. It turns out that a drywall contractor had been using a heat gun to accelerate the drying of a ceiling patch on the second floor of the building adjacent to a sprinkler head. The sprinkler head operated, the fire department and fire marshals responded. Fire Department personnel determined that there was no fire and closed the main control valve to the system. An undetermined amount of water had discharged wetting carpets, walls, furniture and some leakage onto the first floor and basement.
Hats off to Mike Wolsch of Fire and Safety Systems, Ocean Township, NJ (AFSA Member) for his quick response. Mike arrived while the fire department and fire marshals were still on scene. In addition to restoring the sprinkler system, Mike provided the property owner contacts to cleanup contractors and coordinated efforts with the alarm company to conduct an alarm test followed by notification to the fire department that the buildings fire protection had been restored. Sprinkler professionals like Mike Wolsch and Fire and Safety Systems deserve recognition for the outstanding work they do !
