Our department requires a horn/strobe to be placed within 20-ft of the FDC
connection regardless if on the building or remote. Approaching companies will
see and possibly hear where the FDC is located if they don't already know where
it is. This is only required if an FDC is present.

Subject: 6 degrees of separation-- making the FDC

finished a sprinkler system design.
it was close to the 10% buffer, so
the AHJ said, "what if the fire department draws down too much water from the
hydrants and we don´t have enough pressure?"

I say, "does that mean you want a
fire pump?"

He says, "yes, I would prefer one."

I say, "i was not a good firefighter, but I do remember our engineers were
pretty keen on making the connections, are you saying that the first due engine
doesn't make the connections?"

He says, "yes, that happens about 20%
of the time. They arrive at a building, and don't know if there are
connections there or not."

I think, "this IS a problem,"

"...but not mine."

should we put signs up
outside of all buildings with FDC's or is this something the engineer/driver
should know, or something the officer in the bucket should tell him?
