Reza, Most often the difference between an agricultural pump and a fire pump of the same capacity by the same manufacturer is no more than the color and the listing tag. What really makes up the cost difference is the testing that gets you the listing. You then divide up the extra cost associated with the fire pump listing amonst fire pump buyers instead of all pump buyers. Efficiancy at the assembly line is far more critical than efficiency in the field. One assembly line is more efficient than two. This applies only to the pump and not the controller(s). Pricing is a funny thing. Waiting for my wife at a mall once I was wondering why and how the Dairy Queen sold a small cone for $1.59 and a medium cone, twice the ice cream, for only $0.20 more. Slow witted that I am it finally struck me that the cost of being open (rent, power, workers) was already being covered in the small cone and that the cost of the actual ice cream was miniscule so that there was probably more profit in that extra twenty cents than in the entire small cone. Tapping into consumer mentality there then appears to be a huge value increase in the medium versus the small cone and psychologically I would feel stupid to not take advantage of the "good deal." The end result is that Dairy Queen nets a greater profit and a customer that perceives he got a great deal while I get to be another fat American.
