I seem to recall that the 1/2" extensions were UL listed with the replacement
sprinklers for Omegas when Central set up the replacement program, but I can't
seem to find anything in writing to confirm that. Since this would be
maintenance on an existing system, would any AHJ require calcs again?

As to use in new installations, I have seen them used when the installer cut
a nipple a bit short. Although not compliant with 13, i.e. 1" is the smallest
steel pipe to which a sprinkler is supposed to be connected, I doubt that there
would be much of a measurable impact on actual delivery. I have not seen any
data to confirm that, though. Somewhat related would be the listing for dry
sprinklers. One mfr shows, for example, k=5.6 for all dry sprinklers of that
model up to 45 1/2" in length. So if nearly 4 feet of pipe does not impact the
k, it seems unlikely that a 1/2" extension would be a big deal.

  Dave,

I have never experienced any failures.

This topic has brought up a question.

Is the addition of these 1/2" or 3/4" brass extensions approved and in
compliance with any NFPA standard?

How do you calculate friction loss through these extensions?

How many extensions can be applied to one sprinkler?

Any comments?

Thanks,

Subject: 1/2 brass extensions

We have had a few failures of the 1/2" brass extensions used by Central in
the Omega recall program. Trying to get the name of the manufacture of these
items. It is NOT stamped on them. So far we see two manufactures possible
for the extensions. United Brass Works and K&K Screw Products. They are
almost identical looking parts except one has more threads than the other.

Anyone having any knowledge on how to identify who makes these items?? I
would appreciate any input and hearing from anyone who has experienced any
failures with these parts.

Thanks
