Subject: NFPA 13R Garages

According to the automatic sprinkler systems handbook 2002 NFPA 13R 6.7.2.1 for
areas outside the dwelling unit the NFPA13 apply as far as design discharge,
number of design sprinklers, sprinkler coverage, position of sprinklers.
According to section 6.7.3 garages design criteria for garages accessible by
people from more than one dwelling unit shall be covered as per 6.7.2. Further
A.6.7.3.3 points out that a common mistake the application of the location (eg
combustible spaces) from NFPA 13, but the location requirements described in
NFPA 13R 6.8. Since 6.8.5 allow the omission of heads in attics. So the
intention of NFPA 13R not to require heads in attics or combustible spaces
above residential garages?
If anybody dealt with this before please advise.
