Here is another inspection story. I was waiting for an inspection on a UL 300 fire suppression system, and the inspector was late. When he showed up, he was in a bad mood. He had just been on a fire alarm test and the stupid contractor did not know how to hydro the fire alarm panel. Luckily the building inspector know how to hydro the panel, or I would not have had my inspection that day. I was afraid to ask any questions. That inspector was on a 30 day contract with the City until they hired another inspector.

Subject: Funny - or not - inspection story.

Good Morning List,

Here's a little story that should make the professionals amongst us chuckle
on this Friday morning. I was on an inspection at a new residential
pedestal building yesterday afternoon and was supposed to be inspecting the
UG piping and 200 PSI hydo before they closed the trench.

Well first they had to re-excavate the trench because we figured you didnt
want to see thrust blocking, clamping, rodding, and depth. My X-ray
inspector glasses are on backorder .....

Well then comes the hydrostatic test .... mind you this is about 40 feet of
6 inch DI pipe, not big by any stretch of the imagination. The contractor
informs me the compressor will be right here in 5 minutes. So I decide to
wait and eat my lunch in the car. After 20 minutes I dont see anyone
showing up with a hydro pump so I go back into the building to see whats
going on. They take me over and show me a gauge on the pipe - 100 PSI. I
tell them it needs to be 200 PSI for 2 Hrs and they say thats impossible
since the compressor only goes to about 120 PSI. Huh ???? I say show me
this compressor - something is wrong.

Indeed something was wrong. The compressor was there all along, they were
waiting for a longer hose to connect it to the pipe. They needed a longer
hose since the compressor is out back connected to the truck that pulls it
around. It was a trailer compressor we see for jack hammers and such - not a hydrostatic pump. You mean to tell me there's 100 PSI of air only inside
that pipe right now ????? Sure, what else would we test with .......

Just before I left I made sure they bled the air out from a safe distance
and wrote a note on the inspection sticker 'Needs Qualified Contractor with
Proper Equipment'.

You cant make this stuff up.
