Very good points. I'm impressed with the thought that has gone into
this thread, and the fact that every comment is true - perhaps not
universally true, but true in different areas. What is true in
California may not be true in Florida, etc. My original comments were
to state some facts on the development of this process - not to take a
position on it. But frankly, one of the most embarrassing things we
face is when someone calls to say they cannot find a sprinkler
contractor to even BID a system. We HAVE sold the concept of
residential sprinklers, but a lot of people can't find contractors to
do the work. I completely understand why many contractors have no
interest in single-family work, but that doesn't help explaining it to
a frustrated person building a home.
Our friends in the fire service have been very supportive of fire
sprinklers, but they have been increasingly frustrated by the failure
to follow promotion of sprinklers with actually installing them.
And I gotta tell you.... the first time I read a state law that said
that multipurpose systems were plumbing systems and fire sprinkler
contractors WERE NOT ALLOWED to install them, I slapped my head and
said - " < substitute what you think I said > ".
But back to my main point - TRAINING! TRAINING! TRAINING! If
plumbers are going to do some of this work, we want them to
understand why one bulb is yellow, and another is red!
