I am working on a chemical storage warehouse. The decision has been
made to protect it with sprinklers alone and not foam. The total
water demand for ceiling, in-rack and hose is around 3300 gpm. The
public supply alone cannot provide this volume. The proposal has been
made to feed the ceiling sprinklers from a pump and tank and the
in-racks and hose from the public. Hydraulically that can work. Is
there any restriction or problem with this type of arrangement? The
only cross connection between the tank and the public would be in the
fill line. To me, this would be a more reliable system that feeding
the entire system from a single pump and tank. This is the first of
what could be 3 or 4 buildings protected similarly.
While we are at it. This tank will be in the 200,000 gallon range. In
light of ever-increasing fuel prices, any good suggestions on
decreasing heating costs?
