8.15.7.3 (2) 2007 These areas always seem to be ignored in my experience also.
-----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Reed Roisum Sent: Monday, August 18, 2008 3:41 PM To: '[email protected]' Subject: Combustible Overhang I checked the archives and couldn't find anything regarding this specific issue. I've got a 3'-0" overhang with combustible construction. The attic space has 18" of insulation with insulation stops at the edge of the building so the soffit (overhang) space is open for venting. The attic space is sprinklered (13 system). Under the overhang is not required to be sprinklered because it is less than 4'. What is typically done with the space in the overhang? It is a fairly small space but wouldn't fall under the criteria of 8.15.1.2.3 for omission. I couldn't find anything in 8.15 that would allow omission of sprinklers in this space. Talking with the architect I found out that this combustible space is always ignored in his experience. It seems as though this scenario would be fairly common so I'm looking for how you handle it.
