That Tyco video, played before state legislators across the country, could
lube the way for the IRC SFD requirement nationwide.

Subject: RE: Light Hazard Offices

I think the bigger concern should be is TJI or Engineered wood construction
still Light hazard? And Is the design area increase for the concealed
combustible space sufficient when TJI or Composite wood joist construction
is used? Just take a look at the TYCO fire test for these wood structures
and you'll see why I'm more concerned about them than the fire load of the
modern office.

Spoke with a MD fire marshal at the AFSA convention. He told me they had a
fire call, smoke alarm, from a residence. The first unit on site was 2
Minutes from call out to site. They arrived with no visible flame or smoke.
Walked in the front door and went right through the floor to the basement.
Lucky for them the fire was confined to the space between the basement
ceiling and the first floor, floor assembly. If the fire was more like the
TYCO test there would be two more dead fire fighters. Instead just minor
injuries.

Are office buildings burning down because they were designed for Light
Hazard?
