Mr. Williams, I've had similar situations, not necessarily with an EE, but I always proceeded to install what they wanted without guarantee, approval and signed everything under the pseudonym of MM (The mouse guy), the operating phrase in your case is "The system is not required", thus no overseer authority. In this case, and after a polite notification of what may or may not be wrong with the design, I would install anything even if my local Hot Dog vendor designed it.

I got an e-mail this morning form a client for whom I was bidding a design for a large house. The system is not required, but several people think it is a good idea. However, cost is now becoming an issue. The e-mail started as follows: "We consulted with an electrical engineering firm that is called in by the major insurance companies to investigate and trace the cause(s) of residential and commercial fires. They came back to us with the following sprinkler head installation sites (locations) for ......" So now EE firms are locating sprinklers? If I can gather enough info, I may take this to the State. From what I have seen so far, this is overtly wrong. Todd G.
