What have some of you done when you encounter problems on remodels? We are remodeling a store and found evidence of an additive. It may be sodium silicate. My contract requires a 2 year warranty. I contacted Tyco and they will not warranty their heads we installed. I listed the store owner as additional insured. Obviously I cannot warranty the system and I intend to write a letter stating such to the gc. I did inform the gc of the sections of existing piping we found with a cement like substance in it and offered testing at a lab but they adamently said no. The system is part of a strip mall. The store owner is aware of the substance but strip mall owner may not be. I planned on writing a letter stating that we cannot warranty the system for operation and copy the layout tech, fire marshal and my insurer. Does that sound reasonable to you fellows? If I'm missing something please let me know. I really don't want to spend $500 for the attorney to write the letter and I assume such letters are standard throughout the industry. When responding, please reply to [email protected]. Or privately.
