Why foam? It's only applicable in certain instances where you have chemical
commodities that aren't miscible or can not be controlled or suppressed with
water alone.

I don't have an NFPA 30 that far back on hand, 2000 is the oldest we've got
laying around. But to go from a wet, tree system to a foam-water system is not
necessarily going to be one of "minimal reconfiguration". Typically foam-water
requires less water so your hydraulics are going to need total evaluation, plus
heads may or may not be compatible with the foam-water system so they may need
to be changed out.

There are a lot of variables need to be defined and analyzed.

Do you have the design criteria for the original? Was it actually designed for
chemical storage back then?

Subject: NFPA 30

Does anybody have a copy of NFPA 30 from 1994 or earlier era? I have a
warehouse storing plastic IBC Totes (275 Gal) with Class II & IIIA liquids, in
double row racks - 4 levels high. The original system was installed in
1994 by another contractor as a tree at the roof and single level of protection
in the racks, today an insurance guy would like them to protect with foam
utilizing the existing system with minimal reconfiguration, problem is it will
not calc out. Based on 2008 NFPA 30, the original design criteria is nowhere
close to being acceptable by today's standards.

If anybody can help me out it would be much appreciated, please contact me off
forum.

Thanks,
