With just one cup of joe so far, I can only think that a false alarm due to
the compressibility of the air vrs water may result in the next
high-pressure surge encountered- IF it is of sufficient force to move the
paddle for the necessary time to go past the retard setting.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

There may not be a valve they can open to bleed the air.
If the Inspectors Test is at the Riser, then they do not have that
option.
I wouldn't worry about the air.
The manufacturer just doesn't want their piping being used as an air
line.

I don't know if your system was installed to the requirements of NFPA
13D
(For single family homes, or 13R for some other residential structures.

If Iit was to 13D, I don"t no applicable language. If it is to 15R, the
following from the latest edition:
A.10.2.2
<http://nfpacodesonline.org/NFPA/a/c.html/nfpa_13r/annex_explanatory_mate
rial/10_2_2/53>
piping, such as listed CPVC, or flexible piping, the sprinkler system
should
be filled with water. The *air* should be bled from the highest and
farthest
sprinklers before the test pressure is applied.

This is from the annex (appendix to us ordinary folks), and is a
recommendation, not a requirement.

In any event, the reason for keeping air under pressure out of the
piping is
that if it bursts, it can produce projectiles. If the pipe is full of
water, and no air, if the pipe bursts there are no projectiles. Of
itself,
air in the pipes will not cause it to break.
