Art, the original question is a 3:12 roof no BB's that will do 40'. They are all 4:12.
To the other original question I think BB's with a 20' span and AP's taking the last 10' would work functionally but I don't think it's listed for that so no. The only place I find that is for 60' to 80' spans. With a specific listed product you have to stick to the details of the listing. Chris Cahill, P.E. With sloped roof in a wood truss attic you can cover the 40-60ft wide attic with BB sprinklers at the peak only spaced 6ft apart. They are available in K= 5.6 and 8.0 with just one row at the peak. Attic Sprinklers are expensive but very efficient install. Both wet and dry applications. I am looking at a project with a 3:12 roof slope. The Roof is */- 40' span. Tyco makes a BB sprinkler that allows a 3:12 roof slope, but a max span of 20'. I do not see any criteria in the data sheet for the Tyco Attic Sprinklers for a roof entirely protected with AP sprinklers, only a mix of HIP, BB, SD & AP. Or, it is possible to put a row of the 4.2K BB sprinklers at the ridge and then put a row of AP sprinklers at the eave to get the 40' roof span coverage. In that way, the 4.2k BB would only be protecting up to 20' and the AP would get the last 10' on each side to give me my total roof span of 40'. The reason for doing this is to try to utilize CPVC piping in the attic as well as the floors below where the CPVC is allowed without a problem. -- Please feel free to call if you have any questions or comments.
