Not sure if it was a mistype, but the figure in 8.6.3.2.3 shows 11.25 ft...11'-3". Your distance of 11'-4" seems to put you out of that ruling.
If it is less, and the distances from the existing sprinkler to both the rectangular walls and the assumed extension of the cove walls into the room are all less than 7'-6", I would say you meet the 225 sq. ft. maximum. I say this because the code says "angled or irregular" which is how I would describe your situation. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Todd Williams Sent: Tuesday, February 23, 2010 4:37 AM To: [email protected] Subject: angular alcove An office is rectangular except for a small, V-shaped alcove. Minus the alcove, the room could be protected by 2 sprinklers. If I apply 8.6.3.2.3 (13-2002), the distance between the existing sprinkler and the corner is 11'-4", just within the 11'-5" maximum for that ruling. I have used this section for rooms with tight angular walls, but never for an angular alcove. Would this be an acceptable application? Todd G.
