Anyone ever got an even semi-rational reason for differences in methods for various sizes within the same class of item? For example it's common to see 2" and smaller pipe required to be threaded and 2.5" and larger allowed to be grooved. Why a break at 2"? Not talking a schedule difference but yes sometimes it's a 2" sched 40 and larger sched 10. Can't thread sched 10 but 1.5" and 2" are easily grooved. If 4" is OK to be sched 10 why not 1.5"? But I see it often enough when there is no sched specified. For example they will accept XL pipe theaded but not Dyna Flow grooved.
Another common one is OS&Y for 4" and larger but smaller can be butterfly? Not in a fight or anything. Just reading a 45 page spec for a simple heated indoor bus parking structure. And as usual just plain ol' confused to what they want, because I bet they have no idea what they really want and certainly don't know why. Chris Cahill, P.E.
