I used to work on a farm that took irrigation water out of a pump pit that was in a lake. What a mess! I was the one in the pit cleaning out the garbage that was fouling the pump screens. YUCK! Unless that is the ONLY water available, I would rather try to get it from somewhere else. Doing that work would have been a lot easier if there would have been a way to isolate the pit from the lake, pump it out, and then clean things up on some kind of regular basis.

Pond grass can be a big problem. Then you need access to pump screens. I would not be in favor of it do to reliability and maintenance. He wants to take suction directly from the pond without a separate pit. I say he can suspend the pump into the pond, but he still has to have an isolated sump with a trash rack for suction. Has anyone out there done this before? Todd G.
