Mark - I haven't had to deal with this section before, but I can see the
ambiguity. It seems unclear if they are talking about the area of a warehouse
sprinkler system or the actual size of a warehouse fire area (i.e. construction
of the warehouse vs construction of the sprinkler system).

But I'll go out on a limb and suggest that they are discussing the size
limitation of the warehouse fire areas. I.e., if you have a warehouse greater
than 60,000 sq.ft., then you need to add a fire separation wall to create areas
of less than 60,000 sq.ft. As an alternative, you can go up to 120,000 sq.ft.
in the warehouse fire area if you follow the guidelines mentioned: increase
sprinkler system design areas; provide enough isolation valves on the
underground loop around the warehouse (as applicable); and provide a secondary
fire pump if one pump is required.

Of course, the third interpretation is that you cannot have more than 60,000
sq.ft. of warehouse in one building. The exception being that you can have
120,000 sq.ft. max. if you follow the guidelines above. But I don't think
that's the intent.

I have used a single 2½" female hose x male thread adapter, about a foot off
the floor. Then you use a short piece of 2½" fire hose for testing.

Tom,

Do you have a picture or a sketch of a drain riser and connections for a 2-1/2"
pressure reducing hose valve? I'm having a hard time picturing how this all
goes together. Also any hints on distance or arrangement would be helpful.
Thanks

Todd
