Since nobody has responded to the original post I thought I would throw
this out again with an additional question.
Do the sprinklers within the duct need to be within 12" of the top of the
round, or can the sprinkler be rotated down so that the deflector ends up at
say 18" down from the top?

The original questions are below if anyone can respond to them:

NFPA 13, 21.23.2.3 (2010) & NFPA 318, 4.1.2.6.2.2 (2009) provide for maximum
spacing of exhaust duct sprinklers at 20'. Based on this spacing I would
assume half the distance is acceptable from the end of the duct. Is this
correct, or should a different distance be used?

The next question has to do with 318, 4.1.2.6.7 which states, "Where the
branch exhaust ductwork is constructed of combustible material, automatic
sprinkler protection shall be provided within the workstation transition
piece or the branch exhaust duct". I am assuming, once again, that this is
only referring to those branch ducts that are equal to or greater than 75
in. sq. as defined in section 4.1.2.6. Is this a correct assumption?

Thank you, and I hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend,
