Good points by Ryan. Too often in these situations, equipment
is put in without thought for the final user or for equipment
intention--but simply to check a box on a planner.
(This is not the fault of the fire protection contractor, it is a
lack of understanding of the situation on the part of the
client/owner/operator).
What is the protection purpose, cooling or extinguishment?
Do you intend for mobile as well as a fixed monitor strategy?
Who is intended to operate:
site/proprietary fire response familiar with equipment, or
local & surrounding fire department no so familiar?
Having a radiation shield (i.e. dike wall) will help set up/placement of
either
mobile or fixed monitors.
What are the other fire hazards besides the tank that can affect setup
or operation or survivability of hose?
Do you have sufficient hose for mobile set up and does it match threads
of fire response equipment?
Does anyone care to think about a backup plan in case the monitor and/or
other fixed fire equipment don't survive the initiating event?
Do you have enough water supply and boost to meet the new and increased
demands of extinguishment and cooling-ops for the duration of the
campaign?
