If the building isn't so high that the fire department would have problems pumping adequate residual to the highest floor, I would argue against ANYTHING that puts a pump in the water supply. Lower first cost, less maintenance, increased reliability. The engineer on the pumper can dial up or down to whatever is needed at the tip; most (I emphasize MOST) firefighters and incident commanders will tell you that's the easiest way to do it in a building that isn't high-rise.

What's the stated intent or reasoning? Steve Leyton -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Matt Grise Sent: Wednesday, January 23, 2013 12:13 PM To: [email protected] Subject: manual vs automatic standpipes I am looking at a project where the AHJ may potentially require an automatic standpipe (fire pump) in a non high-rise building.(city water is adequate for fire sprinkler system) Is this fairly common/has anyone else come across it?
