Previous edition (2009) of IFC allowed 13D sprinklers in Group I Occupancies -
903.2.6. This carries over to IFC in 2012 with an added verbiage and
explanation for I-1 occupancy; that is that the system 'shall be maintained in
accordance with requirements of [13R]'. My question is how does one do an
annual inspection on a system that does not have the features needed to
accomplish the testing they are requiring?

Just to mention a few, I'm thinking here of things like main drain test,
activating a flow switch through a test connection, even fire pumps (if
present) on a 13D would not have any features for testing. Nowhere can I find a
reference in IFC that would require having these features. And further, if you
provide these feature to meet the IFC requirement aren't you very close to a
13R (with the only difference being 10 minutes of water vs. 30)?

Please help a blind man to understand, am I missing something?
