That's a little unfair. AHJ are not EOR's, NICET... You have to bring them a plan. It's at least an obstruction over 4' wide. There is no test data showing otherwise. Seems straight forward to me, either provide sprinklers underneath or engage a PE (FPE) to develop an alternate. AHJ can tell you they don't require but that sure doesn't help in a claim as we've spoke about many times here.
