There were "passive purge" systems installed for a while.  Go to the last head, 
add a tee & tie it into the water closet supply line.  It helped to purge the 
stagnate water from the sprinkler system, if I remember correctly, these were 
installed this way, pre-back flow requirement. This was done in the north east 
on 13D systems for a while, not sure if they're still installed this way.
