IF I could get a clarification on something. I am working on a project where we have a piece of 18" spiral duct that is obstructing some future sidewall sprinklers. Section 8.7.5.2.1.3 talks about the 3x rule. That would require 3 x 18" or 54" clearance. However, it also says the maximum clear distance required shall be 24". The associated figure doesn't exactly clarify it. Which distance needs to be maintained, 54" or 24"? It's a pretty big disparity and would have a big impact on the shadow. At present, the distance will be about 17".
