The changes in FM are significant. We're doing a office with parking garage job
that is FM Global. We have to do two submittals, one for the city using NFPA
area density and the other using the new FM area densities. FM design for a
parking garage is .3/1000. And as near as we can tell FM doesn't recognize any
of the twin tee rules from NFPA. 22 inch deflector max, period. It's a real
pain trying to comply with both.

Subject: Re: NFPA 13 Future Development

I think Chris hit it on the nose.

Add to the mix the radical change that FM now applies by only using a defined
number of sprinklers and a starting pressure for all sprinkler types. This
concept was proposed to the 13 TC and was soundly rejected. I just don't see
13 doing away with the area/density curves. Keeping in mind that truth can be
stranger than fiction and you never really know where a group of 30 voters is
going to end up, for the foreseeable future, I believe the odds are about the
same as a snowballs chance in hell.
