I know companies that have been doing this for 15 plus years. You can walk
in the riser room and see that they still look as good today as when they
were hung. Seems like they work pretty good.

Subject: Laminated placards and info signs

Has anyone ever tried laminating hydraulic placards or general information
signs before, and would you be willing to offer any pros or cons of doing
this?

NFPA 13 only says that the signs have to be metal or rigid plastic. So my
thought is if you use a heavy enough laminating pouch, say 5-7 mils, it will
be pretty stiff.

On top of this, we can print the placards out so that the information is
legible, and the lamination will keep the writing from fading or getting
eaten up.

The hydraulic placards are easy to find in sticker or metal plate form, but
I haven't been able to find a pre-made general info sign, which is what
really started me thinking about this, and it just kind of seemed logical to
do the hydraulic placards the same way.

I've seen others use those 3 for $5 picture frames they sell at Staples for
the general info sign, but that seems too easily damaged or water-logged to
me for some reason.

Anyone else have any thoughts or ideas on this? I know I can't be the only
person that gets tired of filling out hydraulic placards. My hand starts
cramping up after two, and the last one is always barely legible.
