Actually, it is 200 sq ft per head, I believe when dealing with small room exceptions.

Yes. You can be 16'6 per NFPA 13 when you utilize this rule. You just have
to be sure you don't exceed the 225 spacing per head.

I'm sending you a snapshot (directly to your email since we can't place an
attachment on the forum) that should answer your question.

I hope this diagram go through. But something like this.

  _4_
| |__14__
| |
16 12
|____18___|

Every time there is more than a single heads in the figures it is 9' off a
wall then 6' off the opposite. The question is can you space a sprinkler
16'6" in one direction and reduce the spacing in the other direction in
conjunction with multiple sprinkler when using small room?

Jerry,

It's difficult to answer your question without seeing a true diagram of your
room. But in general, as long as you have a light hazard room that is less
than 800 sf total, you can be up to 9' off of one wall and can have multiple
heads in the room. You can't be 9' off of a wall with one head and then 9'
off of a different wall with another head. The sketches in the Annex (or
Handbook) do a pretty good job showing the different scenarios.

Hope this helps.

I've been reading this thread and come to think I've miss understood how to
apply this exception.

Based on NFPA 13(13ed)Fig A.8.6.3.2.4 I've always thought the only time you
would exceed the 15'-0" spacing for a sprinkler is when you have a single
sprinkler in a small room.

In a situation where an L shape room 12x18 with a 4' pop out for the entry
in one of the corners along the 18' side, Could you get away with 2
sprinklers or do you need 3?
