I’m glad Ron raised this issue - and I consider it on-topic for the SprinklerForum. We process email for all services, but we get far more bounced mail and delivery failures from AOL than any other source. I won’t get technical other than to say that the way AOL structures their message content appears to many other services as spam - and AOL treats many legitimate messages from the SprinklerForum as spam. When someone complains that they aren’t receiving SprinklerForum messages, the first thing I check is to see if they have an AOL address. If they do, there is nothing I can do about it.
For my personal email I have my own domain name and the mail is filtered through Google Mail (gmail) because they have an absolutely awesome spam/virus filter. In only two days they have isolated over 1,000 spam messages - and I’ve only received about 20 legitimate messages in that time. I used to faithfully review email in my spam folder to make sure it was real spam - but I finally gave up on that since it almost never gives me a false positive. Unfortunately it does sometimes put AOL messages in the spam folder, but I no longer receive much AOL mail so I can live with that. This is not to condemn AOL. They probably provide a good service in many ways - but their email is problematic in many ways and has caused a lot of confusion on the Forum. Just as a warning….. if in the future you do have issues with the Forum and you have AOL email, it is not likely we can do anything about it other than recommend you switch to another free email provider and resubscribe to the forum.
