The tape material is PET and the cases are unexpanded polystyrene. Both are
listed in NFPA 13 as Group A plastics.

In one section of NFPA 13, the magnetic tape alone is listed as a Class IV
commodity but that does not include the casing of a VHS or cassette tape.

Subject: VHS Archive Storage

I have a small room (538 sf) that is being used for VHS Archive Storage. I
read an interpretation that says that the VHS tapes can be considered Class IV
rather than Group A plastics. I can't find anything in 13, 232, IBC, or IFC
that corroborates this. Can anyone
verify this or give me direction? This is in an existing
sprinklered building that was originally calc'ed for LH. Somewhere over the
years the area was converted from a small library that was open to a common
office area to a closed off compartment. Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you,
