Even when using obstructions per 8.12.5.1.1 as baffles, the minimum
protected area per sprinkler must not violate section 8.12.2.3.

Just for discussion, look at 8.12.5.1.1. Isn't that essentially a
cross section of a baffle? While not specifically having a section
dedicated to baffles for ESFR as other sprinklers types do, and
allowing spacing's less than 8'-0, what would you do if you had a
solid structural beam? Section 8.12.5.1.2 says that you can ignore
the beam if you have a sprinkler on each side of the beam. I am
willing to bet there is a chance those (2) sprinklers end up closer
than 8'-0 in a lot of cases. How is this any different than a
baffle, it serves the same purpose? Section 8.12.5.1.2 also does not
apply and conditions or restrictions when placing a sprinkler on
each side. Am I missing something?

Subject: Re: ESFR Sprinklers and Baffles
By spacing them at no less than 8 ft. No being a SA (well too much
of one) but that is simply one of the annoying limits on ESFR. If
close to 8 ft, try a staggered pattern (like often seen in days gone by).
