Reed-

Yes, the total inside + outside hose allowance = 250.

Subject: Stage Calc Hose Allowance

When taking the IBC exception for the required Class III wet standpipe on a
stage of 1000+ sq ft and installing the 1 ½" hose connection in accordance with
NFPA 13, do you include an additional hose allowance on the sprinkler calc?

Stage is OH2 so I have a 250 gpm hose stream requirement currently added at the
connection to the underground city water main (effective point). To be
technically correct do I change that to 200 outside hose at the effective point
and 50 gpm inside hose at the connection of the 1 ½" hose to the sprinkler
system?

Below are some of what I think are relevant code and standard references...

IBC 2009

[F] 905.3.4 Stages. Stages greater than 1,000 square feet in area shall be
equipped with a Class III wet standpipe system with 1 1/2-inch and 2 1/2-inch
hose connections on each side of the stage.

Exception: Where the building or area is equipped throughout with an automatic
sprinkler system, a 1 1/2-inch hose connection shall be installed in accordance
with NFPA 13 or in accordance with NFPA 14 for Class II or III standpipes.

[F] 905.3.4.1 Hose and cabinet. The 1 1/2-inch hose connections shall be
equipped with sufficient lengths of 1 1/2-inch hose to provide fire protection
for the stage area. Hose connections shall be equipped with an approved
adjustable fog nozzle and be mounted in a cabinet or on a rack.

NFPA 13, 2010 edition

Chapter 11 Design Approaches

11.1 General. The requirements of Section 11.1 shall apply to all sprinkler
systems unless modified by a specific section of Chapter 11 or Chapter 12.

11.1.6 Hose Allowance.

11.1.6.4* Water allowance for outside hose shall be added to the sprinkler
requirement at the connection to the city main or a private fire hydrant,
whichever is closer to the system riser.

11.1.6.5 Where inside hose connections are planned or are required, the
following shall apply:

(1) A total water allowance of 50 gpm (189 L/min) for a single hose connection
installation shall be added to the sprinkler requirements.

(2) A total water allowance of 100 gpm (379 L/min) for a multiple hose
connection installation shall be added to the sprinkler requirements.

(3) The water allowance shall be added in 50 gpm (189 L/min) increments
beginning at the most remote hose connection, with each increment added at the
pressure required by the sprinkler system design at that point.
