If CA follows NFPA 70 without any kinds of modifications or amendments, there
is no restriction on the routing of a sprinkler line through an electrical room
as long as you are outside the Working Space and the Dedicated Electrical Space
as defined with NFPA 70, 110.26. The sprinkler line does not have to serve
only the electrical room as some believe. See 110.26 (E) (1) (c).

One thing to note about electrical rooms is that if the electrical gear is oil
filled, it's not going to be an ordinary hazard occupancy any more, sidewall
goes away as an option. Be sure you know if the electrical gear is dry or oil
filled.

Subject: Sprinkler in Electrical Rooms (in CA) [EXTERNAL]

We've had resent jobs where the GC has told us to remove the piping from the
electrical room and just install a sidewall. We've been following NEC 110.26
(f) (2008).

Has there been a change to the electrical code / CBC requiring this?
