We had a similar situation (but 4-5") where raising the ceiling was not an
option for structural reasons. In that case they enclosed the space above the
simulator creating a n/c space which didn't require sprinklers. We did not put
protection inside the simulator. See if the unit needs ventilation and look at
how they are handling that.
