Per NFPA 13 2016 16.21.3.4.3 protected with ceiling sprinklers and with more than one level of in-racks sprinklers, but not in every tier, densities shall be permitted to be reduced an additional 20%, as indicted in Table 16.2.1.3.4.3 The table states for the 12’ through 20’ minimum required Yes to Figure 16.2.1.3.4.1 for adjustment. Since 20’ storage does not require in-racks, the minimum is zero and the density is .495. Table then states, more than the minimum, apply a 20% reduction for the ceiling density. Since the minimum for 20’ storage is zero, can you take a 20% reduction with just (1) level of in-racks added or per Paragraph 16.2.1.3.4.3 do you have to have (2) levels to get the 20% reduction?
