Mike, There are different variables that could explain why you have had multiple corrosion failures on one (1) system and not the other eight (8) in the building:
* Is there machinery or process equipment beneath the failing system? Corrosion is accelerated by higher temperatures. * Has the failing system been renovated or modified more regularly than the other systems? Corrosion is accelerated by more frequent system activity - drain and re-fills. * Does the failing system have more elevation changes than the other systems? More trapped air pockets in the system can lead to faster corrosion failures. As I mentioned, system activity can have a big impact on corrosion rates. The simple act of taking a system out of service and replacing damaged pipe can add enough fresh oxygen to cause your next leak. So the other eight systems could have experienced some corrosion problems as well, but have not yet reached a point of failure. Meanwhile the corrosion reaction in the failing system continues to be fueled as you are forced to repair it.
