I believe typically the same rule applies, looking at a random datasheet
for a Viking extended coverage head that is FM approved it lists in the FM
design guidelines "Maximum coverage areas" with the footnote that you use
the next larger coverage area if yours doesn't match one of the choices.
As the options are all square like the UL listing I would say you'd treat
it the same way.

Subject: EC Heads in an FM Job
Sent by: "Sprinklerforum"

BE ADVISED - This email originated outside EMCOR.

First off I’ve never used EC Sprinkler on an FM job, nor do I have much
experience with FM to begin with.

I’ve always rounded up to the used the square spacing requirement from
data sheets i.e 14x14, 16x16 etc. when the sprinkler spacing was less
than full square.

When in FM I would assume you do the same. But I’ve been told this is not
the case. I’ve read through some of the FM sheets an can’t find where is
clearly say one way or the other.

Can someone shed some light on this.
