What code section(s) determines if/when sprinkler system control valves (system risers) need to be located in a riser room? Is it ever actually a requirement, or just a preference?
And what about proximity to exterior access doors? The standard for speculative warehouses in my neck of the woods (desert) is generally to have risers in the pump room, or to have one or more banks of risers positioned around the building, generally next to a man door. But, do the risers have to be immediately adjacent to a door? Or within a certain maximum distance? Are there instances where a dedicated room is required? I realize many jurisdictions might have their own amendments and/or interpretations, but I'm just wondering from a national code standpoint what the driving factors are. Thanks.
