Pretty common setup that has been used over the years. I remember installing 
some back in my field days.
But, we also bent the lip on purlins back then for a beam clamp. The purlins of 
course, were at least made from metal back then 🙂

I believe since nuts and washers are considered Misc, there are no listing 
issues.

However, there are always situations...

I have seen something like this type of arrangement a few times with exception 
of using a square steel washer plate on the top and bottom and locking it into 
place with a nut and lock washer on top and bottom.
