Hi David,
Thanks for your words of praise, they mean a lot to us the developers.
Now, about your issues:
1. I checked out our list of keyboard shortcuts and unfortunately you're
right: it's not possible to change the shortcuts to go to the beginning
and end of a line. Please open an issue in our Issue tracker, so we can
take care of it:
http://code.google.com/p/spyderlib/issues/list
2. You're right about rope and ubuntu, but it seems that will be fixed
in ubuntu 11.10 because not only rope but also ipython, pyflakes, pylint
and sphinx are recommended packages of Spyder. So they will be installed
by default when you're trying to install Spyder (if my understanding of
apt-get is correct!)
Cheers,
Carlos

Hi,
I have just (re-)discovered spyder a few days ago when I was looking
for resources for a new Python course I am teaching. It is really
very impressive (and the other professors who are taking the course
also think so)!
I am beginning to explore it, but the first apparently minor issue
that I came across is the following:
I have always changed the shortcuts in any editor to Ctrl-A and Ctrl-E
for moving to the beginning and end of the current line, respectively,
as used, for example, in bash and emacs.
However, I have been unable to find how to change this shortcut option
in spyder. It is now so natural for me to move around like this that
it becomes frustrating not to be able to use it and to have all text
selected etc. instead.
Is there any way to do this currently (I have installed version 2.0.6
from the Ubuntu 11.04 repository, but am happy to install a more
recent version if that would solve the problem). [A different issue is
that apparently the Ubuntu package does not automatically install the
rope package, needed for the syntax analysis etc.]
In general it seems to me that (coming from a naive point of view as a
user!) that any shortcut should be configurable in principle.
Thanks and best wishes,
David.
