Well, that took me many hours, not being a postgresql expert. I finally read http://www.postgresql.org/idocs/index.php?client-authentication.html and realised that I needed to do something with the pg_hba.conf. In the end I have uncommented local all trust and suddenly I can log onto sql-ledger again.
