You swapped threads - I was following my reply which was to another
thread (lucky I spotted it)  - I did not read the preceding stuff in
this thread which may or may not be relevant.

There is something else going on and it is not just to do with s32le vs
s32be as the file you sent is the same as ffmpeg.  There is something
else different that is affecting the scanning by the Audio::Scan module
and the decode by faad. I'm guessing it is only specific to HD Alac
(i.e. sample size more than 16 bit)

If you want to progress, I need a sample file of a working 24 bit alac
file so that it can be compared to same file after conversion into alac
by ffmpeg.
