If you have a Raspberry Pi ... how about installing pCP on it and using that to install LMS as well? Then you get a self-container configuration that is known to be complete and working (elsewhere at least). It is harder to patch things to include extra debugging but it would help to (probably) rule out any issue with local network and Internet connection ... and if you use the same cable and router port then it probably removes them from the equation as well.
