I can imagine that all other things being equal, a Linux server will probably run faster and perhaps more stable. But I haven't had any performance problems or stability issues so far. The music is stored on two external USB3 hard drives, each with 6TB capacity. And there are two of the same attached on my primary, current notebook that I use as backups (and the rest of my data).
