I know you said no docker but that seems to be the way of the future unless you never upgrade. It is not that hard once you do it a few times and honestly is probably not a bad thing because it keeps your main system clean and isolated.
My fiancé has a 718+ and I just upgraded it to 7 a few days ago and her LMS docker install came back online with no issues.
