Does this mean that part of the build/release process will have to be outside of Github?
It has never been there - yet. I was considering moving to Github, but the Windows and Mac builds are painful... Ralphy is working on a more open Windows build. Hopefully this will allow us to have a more standard build pipeline.
The Mac builds will need a lot of work. We're working on the first step, to basically get LMS working on latest macOS. But some of the surrounding tools like the PrefPane are more than a decade old. That should be overhauled/replaced.
But signing would still be a problem. You can integrate Github actions with external builders. A signing system is super sensitive. I would never be allowed to access this from outside the corporate network.
