Many thanks for your help Snarly. In the end I uninstalled the player from SN altogether through the SN web interface, then reassigned the player under a new pin.
Interesting the service came back to life at the stroke of midnight, leading me to wonder whether my ISP is preventing some access either deliberately (to minimise p2p communication?) or as a consequence of outage/updagrade.
