The two exist because a remote service can't play your local files, but some people don't want to have to have a server on all the time. SN essentially provides a subset of the functionality of SC that doesn't require access to local files. Personally, I never use SN because I do keep a server running, but there are some people who only ever use online services and never play local files. With SN they don't even have to install SC.
